Great practice, but not necessarily for a novice

This is just the type of book I was looking for to increase my French literacy. Previous to buying this book, I would buy a book such as "L'Etranger" in French and also in English and read them side by side--so this book of French stories does exactly that in one book. It's also a plus that the stories themselves are are excellent from a literary point of view, and would be worthwhile reading, even just in English.

The only drawback is, as a novice in the French language, it was very challenging for me to read in French without resorting very frequently to the English side of the page. It made me want to find a similar book, but slightly less advanced, so that I could graduate up to this book.

If you are fairly new to French, this is not for you. If you are fairly fluent, this will be a pleasure read. If you are somewhere in the middle like me, with a few years of schooling in French but no practical experience, take it on as a learning opportunity, but you may not be able to read more than a few pages at one sitting.

The very good and the pretty bad--still would buy again

First the good. These stories are worth reading anyway, even if not trying to improve your French. Can't believe I never read Micromegas before! Can't believe it was written mid 1700s! So the selection of stories is an excellent one and the practice and vocabulary building comes quickly. For that reason, I'd unquestionably buy this again.

The bad. I know enough French to know that the translations are atrocious. Though I am not fluent in French, I believe I could have done a better, truer translation (with help of a French dictionary). Beautiful phrases are translated into mundane English cliches and some unknown French words are, on some occasions, "translated" into the identical (and equally unknown) word on the English side. Did the translater not have access to an English dictionary or did he not know what the French word really meant?

So -- definitely a useful buy for learning and practicing French and (particularly if you can read most of it in French) interesting stories as well. Just try not to refer to the English counterpart more than you must, such as for the periodic word translation.

It's like watching a diver jump from a cliff, but you don't know if the diver knows there are rocks under the sea surface. You scream to warn him, but it's too late. All you can do now is chew your nails and hope for the best.
Who said females don't like blood, gore, fighting or horror? Oh how i loved those scenes in the castle. The Dark rituals series is faithful to the genre till the end.

End... why does it have to end? I want more of Dark Rituals, much more... at least 5 books more (And Luke. I want Luke).

the poor guy went through hell

Once I finished reading Awakening, I bought the other three and read them back to back. I hope I'm not writing any spoilers, only what you will expect to see.

The people trying to bring forth the legion are out there. You'll learn what about the other experiments were. Just when you thought Wendy went through enough in book 3, you learn what happened to her. The little demon girl has a big role. The resolution of the Colina and Luke's relationship. Personally I was pulling for Luke, the poor guy went through hell. If Colina was a real person, I could have smacked her upside the head for what she put him through in this book. Finally, what was up with Mildred. I went through the gambit and liking and disliking her. By the end, I liked her.

Overall, I really liked Legion. It was a good mix of disturbing, satisfying, and surprising. I think if you've read the other 3, you will like this one too.

An Amazing End to an Amazing Series

This book was amazing! The author did a great job of bringing the series around. Colina has grown so much from the first book and this book showcases so much growth and change. You're able to watch Colinas struggle with lovers as well. Her fear of Luke in Calebs body, her love/not love for Dean, and her forced infatuation of Gage. I loved every minute of this book and hope that one day there will be more! I'm ready to read any book this author publishes!

A must for any artist

I've never encountered such a precise simple book on composition. When I was in art school, we experimented with composition with our teacher saying "just draw shapes". It was very frustrating because I didn't know why certain shapes worked and others didn't, and so I never got anywhere. For years I struggled with composition and knew something had to be done about it. After reading this book, I finally understand composition! When you first open it it looks so simple you get worried you already know everything in it, but Molly explains everything so perfectly, showing you both examples of what works and what doesn't, and most importantly, why. There are also exercises at the very end of the book to put your knowledge to the test. This book should be mandatory in any art major!

graphically teaches you what it means to tell a story graphically only using things like size composition and shade. mostly only using the same principles. It's great the way it shows examples or these techniques while using them.

Many other books on at go on and on trying to put thinks into worlds. this book uses pictures and graphics to tell you a story while at eh same time you see the decisions and thought process being made while telling you this story. kinda like watching a movie about making a movie. it's not like you read and then heres examples or read and maybe you can see how this works in practice. it's really effective and all there.

at the point I read this book I've done art for a while and though I knew composition. and I did. thats what this book was recommended to me as. but I find it to more about storytelling and how elements you never thought of like composition can be a great storytelling tool. and how graphically with out the superficial elements like drawing a good drawing of say a wolf in this cause. just using framing and position to communicate the story and feeling you clearly want to create.

I love this book, because it best illustrates a fundamental core skill every artist needs.

Text of Kindle edition isn't properly formatted

Low score for major format issues in the electronic edition

I saw this issue mentioned in a number of reviews of the past edition, but hoped it would be resolved in the re-release. Alas, it is not. If you enjoy reading a coded text in which almost all characters that aren't standard letters are some other thing, this book is for you. I'm sure it provides additional brain exercise while you absorb the images. Incidentally, the images in the Kindle edition are also appearing somewhat off from their descriptive notes, which is also a bit confusing.

I adapted and figured it out after a while, but wish I hadn't needed to.

Here's hoping the publisher will notice this and fix it and retroactively fix everyone's e-copies. That would be great. The book itself explores useful concepts of composition in a relatable way.
