About the Author

Lisa R. Jackson-Cherry, Ph.D., LCPC, NCC, is the department chair and a professor in the Department of Counseling at Marymount University and director of the clinical mental health counseling and pastoral counseling programs with primary teaching responsibilities in clinical supervision, crisis intervention, and pastoral integration. Her research and clinical practice areas include crisis intervention and planning, risk assessment, and treating complicated grief and addressing mental health issues of the military and children of fallen law enforcement officers. She is also a member of the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists.

Bradley T Erford, Ph.D., LCPC, NCC, is a professor in the school counseling program at Loyola University with primary teaching responsibilities in assessment, research, and lifespan development. He has held numerous professional leadership positions and published numerous books, articles and book chapters.

A Practical Tool

As a counseling grad student I find this book extremely helpful and practical. Many of our books are theoretical in nature but this seems to be something which, if implemented, will give me some useful and practical real-life tools to address crisis situations. I plan to go back through it when class is done and outline a plan of action in preparation for each type of crisis that may well present in session. It lists the types of people that a counselor will need as resources and referrals in the community and I can make those connections while I am learning the material rather than being caught entirely by surprise in the moment once I'm up and running. The advice seems well balanced and considers several ways of dealing with the same difficulties.

The total package for crisis counseling competency!

This text is relevant, comprehensive and hailed as such by my graduate students. Engaging them in critical thinking and synthesis of assessment, intervention and prevention topics is evocative yet necessary to prepare them for a crisis event. I found the Jackson-Cherry text particularly useful in initiating that process.

The content of the book is extremely helpful. It's concise, well organized, well written, and full of all the right information needed for my introduction to crisis intervention now and saving it as a great reference book for later.

Having said that, I wish I had ordered the physical book. The Kindle version is buggy. It crashes frequently and has to be reopened from the very beginning of the text. This makes flipping through the text and looking for information on the fly very difficult and frustrating.

I'm running Kindle for Desktop in Windows 7 on an Intel i3 laptop. I've never had this problem before now. Additionally, for some odd reason Kindle for Desktop is the only place I can open the text. Not on my phone, not on the web, and not on my older Kindle keyboard. It's odd and not an issue the authors should have to fix.

Currently SUNY Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the State University of New York, New Paltz, he is the author, contributing author, or editor of twenty books, including the award-winning Chinese Houses: The Architectural Heritage of a Nation and Chinese Houses of Southeast Asia: The Eclectic Architecture of Sojourners and Settlers.

Peranakan Chinese Home and Art

It is a world of it's own and yet it is the world of millions of South East Asian Chinese immigrants who were in search of a better world, assimilated into the culture and then created a world of culture all their own, but always relating to the country of birth. Some of the houses may be a bit too much and extravagant, but that is true of most " New " wealth. The taste is sometime a little to ornate for my taste but it does not mean I cannot appreciate the beauty of it.

Book in fairly good condition and prompt delivery. This is a good intro book for anyone interested in this particular sub-culture in the south east asia. For me I sort of grew up in this culture and am looking to reinforce my concept and apply to my art design. As an intro book the subject matter might not have gone deep enough for me.

I would give it 5 stars if it wasn't so small. A lot of details and texture get lost unless you look really close. The actual art is great and it's cool to see how different characters and enemies could have looked.

Not my favorite in the series

I have loved this series from the beginning and when rereading it I found out that there were 4 more books. I one-clicked without reading the blurb and after a few chapters I regretted it. However I needed to know how it ended. Some really messed up things happen between Vince and Maggie that I personally would not be able to overlook but maybe forgive. But after reading the rest of the books I have to say that I'm glad I continued to read them and not give up on this series.

While I adore how Arkadie writes, and I love these characters, this one has a bit more crazy than usual. Always fast paced with a great story line and lots of crazy good sex. Reading in order to get background info will make the reading better. Most Definitely RECOMMENDED.
