Francis J. Moloney, SDB (DPhil, University of Oxford), is a Senior Professorial Fellow of Australian Catholic University at its Melbourne, Australia, campus. Book by a Consummate Scholar and Excellent Teacher

I have not completed the book, but from what I've read so far, the Rev. Dr. Francis J. Moloney again shows himself to be a consummate biblical school AND an excellent teacher, AND a faithful member of the Body of Christ. (Full disclosure: I may be a bit biased as he was once my dean and colleague at CUA in DC--and is still a friend). All of these come together in this work, which is rooted in Fr. Moloney's deep faith, built on his critical scholarship, and put forth is his ability to communicate the fruits of scholarship to others who wish their faith to be strengthened or others who are openly searching and learning about these early Christian and canonical works. After this book, I'd heartily recommend his commentaries on John and Mark!

I actually enjoyed this book for class

From a student perspective (ie. having to write weekly 2000 word essays pertaining to this book), I have to say my prof made a wonderful decision to choose this book. The topics were very up-to-date and thought provoking. It's nice to discuss the future of robots, cell phone radiation, and have current heated topics in class. I'm sick of hearing about the abortion, death penalty, right to bare arms topics. Students over used those discussions in high schoool. Basically, I give an A+ for the interesting topics.
The book is also setup in a very student friendly fashion. Topics are given a 1 page summary relating the pros and cons of 2 writers opinions before plunging into their papers. After the 2 opinions are presented, there is also a page for points to ponder afterward. These two features proved very handy when having to do class discussions over something you read a week before. Skimming for quick recall can be a good thing!
Although I wouldn't have bought this book if I didn't have to, I believe it is an excellent choice for profs to use in class.

This book covers some major topics like Gentically modified food, electric cars and offers a pro/con on them from various academics, government etc. I needed it for a class, however, the material changes from year to year but it raises a lot of ethical and moral issues that we rarely consider.

As a required text for college, it was rather interesting

Normally, textbooks can be a bit of a droll when they are assigned as textbooks but in all fairness, I found this book to be rather interesting. It ranged across numerous topics involving sciences, innovations/dangers of technology and how society perceives them. It gives you two viewpoints from respected individuals, one is usually for the topic and the other is against it. The topics ranged from cancer induced by cellphones (aka radio waves), to environmental issues, and all the way to transhumanism. To be honest, it was a rather enjoyable read.

Five stars for practical wisdom. By reading this book, I notice that there's a pattern for success - change. If you can see what need to be changed in an industry or community and act to execute your idea, you might have a high rating for success.

Five stars for guiding me to the future. Jay does not only tells stories from the past, he connects the dots in the past to predict the future.

I have never read a book PACKED WITH SO MANY GEMS!!! I highlighted 323 passages in the book along with making 52 notes. Jay's book is transformative. Excellent book on gauge theory

This work, which is not so well-known, gives a good

introduction in gauge field theory. Starting from scalar

fields quickly more advanced subjects such as magnetic monopoles, the higgs mechanism and spontaneous symmetry breaking are discussed.

The work contains nice overviews of the mathematics of Lie groups and Lie algebras and has a number of useful exercises.

This book is a gem!

If you are reading this review you are probably familiar with field theory and learned it in a quantum field theory class or book. If not go ahead and read THIS book, it is a must BEFORE a QFT a class. I wish I had it a few years ago, I would learn QFT much easier. Still it clarified a lot of things and recommended for every theoretical physics student. You will at least recognize what is related to quantum aspects and what is not.

Lesley Stagg has been an international school head in Portugal, the U.S., Colombia, Switzerland, and the United Arab Emirates following her first headship in the UK. She is passionate about quality education as a right for every child. Currently she is a regional accreditation officer with the Council of International Schools where she has responsibility for around 65 schools in Europe and the Middle East.

useful and topical

Please find below my thoughts after reading Lesley Stagg's
book on international mindedness.

Most contributions are authoritative, useful and topical. I especially
liked the chapters of Walter Plotkin (for clarity of thought), Michael
Bell and Margaret Alvarez(for depth), Richard Bristowe and Catherine
Lockhart (for practical application of the topic), Graham Ranger (for
its interesting Indian perspective) and Mary Hayden and Jeff Thompsons
(for their authoritive perspectives). Also Lesley Stagg's own
-quite personalised- contributions (e.g. regarding the essence
and importance of diversity) I found thought-provoking and
very much spot on!

The chapters of Isobel Morgado (a bit heavy-handed), Chris Bayliss and
Emma Hall(more for newcomers to the subject), Ormond Fannon (very much
about good art teaching) and David Duwyn (interesting yet somewhat
over-ambitious) were still a good read.

I like its cover too, (for its strong image and message),
as well as the overall physical qualities (paper, print) of the book.

Very inspiring and human story.

As a fan of books about demonology and exorcism, I have to say I enjoyed this one. It was scary, it was also very believable. There are times I don't agree with the choices he makes, such as going back to an old cemetery where a demon harassed him and his girlfriend. But this guy is a true believer, his faith in Jesus is very strong, and maybe that's why he's takes on dangers the rest of us avoid.

Brandon is very honest, he admits his struggles with alcohol abuse, self-destruction, and at one point he starts dreaming about winning the lottery which is how a demon tries to get back into his life. Brandon is also an amateur MMA fighter, which makes him an untypical exorcist.

If you're afraid of inviting a demon into your life by reading about horror and the supernatural, you don't have to worry. There is a book that features the names of many Demons with the warning not to say them out loud, this isn't one of them. Reading this won't hurt you, it might even make your faith stronger. Experimenting with Ouija boards, and trying to connect with the spirit world can open doors to very bad places.

Doesn't Deliver

I had trouble reading this book and finally ended up just skimming the last quarter of it. Partially, it was because it simply didn't hold my interest and, partially, because the author ended up getting on my nerves with how he was telling his story. This needed editing badly to make the timeline cohesive as the author kept skipping around. In one chapter, he talks about breaking up with his girlfriend and in the next chapter, they are still together, so his timeline kept jumping around and it felt very jumbled. Also, there wasn't much description of place in the story so you had a hard time picturing where they were, which I assume is because the author needs more practice or could have benefited from some writing classes before finishing this book. One of the basics of good writing is "show, don't tell," and this book was pretty much just telling.

Whether you believe in evil or nasty spirits or not, this book left something to be desired, as the author's actions made little sense. He relates how he as a child and his grandmother were accosted by some kind of evil spirit (they called it the Devil, but that's doubtful) in their home...but then he goes on to join up with some paranormal investigation group and go around poking at spirits in haunted inns and homes and graveyards. Does this seem reasonable? Not really... The author is only in his early 20's during all of this, but suddenly decides he is being given signs from God that he is called to be some kind of "demon-fighter" and begins going around to people's homes to bless them and drive out bad spirits. Definitely, hints of an ego trip, especially since he had absolutely no training or mentoring in any of this. Honstly, this is NOT the work for someone with no training or experience to undertake and this book makes it seem like you can have a feeling this is for you to do and you can just go and do it. Of course, there are nasty consequences at times, but that's hardly surprising.

The author is honest about his and his mother's drinking issues and his suicide attempts, but he attaches this to demonic activity...such as it was demons making him take sleeping pills and drink booze in order to die when he and his girlfriend break up. He sends her a picture of the pills and the booze in order to get a reaction, but when there is no response, he tries to kill himself. Please, this is a sign he needed counseling, not an exorcism. Then, when he wakes up in the hospital, and they want to send him to get professional mental help, one of his relatives says he didn't really mean it, so they just drop it. This is highly unprofessional and also made no sense.

The other strange story was when he and his paranormal crew went to this supposedly highly haunted cemetery and a car follows them in and they immediately think they are about to be murdered by Satanists and the author gets ready to rumble with them. Only, it turns out the car is actually full of girls who also want to check out haunted stuff...this is just so paranoid and seems more like a bunch of teens and early twenty-something messing around with things and scaring themselves in the process. It shows the mindset of the author and his friends that the first thing they think of when seeing a car near a haunted cemetary is that it must be full of Satanists out to kill people. Really? It couldn't just be the local cops out to keep teens and twenty-somethings from messing around in the cemetary and knocking over tombstones? Or a bereaved relative?

Of course, there is the proverbial we got a Ouija Board and something got into our house because of it...this urban legend has been around for years now, as much as the author insisting that even reading a book about demons and evil spirits will end up with one attaching itself to you. (I guess no one should read this book then, either, or have the same happen to you...if you believe that sort of thing.)

I can't recommend this book. It really has no historical or folkloric value regarding the belief in demons or spirits, it misleads people into thinking they can mess around with bad spirits and ghosts with no experience or training in the matter, and it just wasn't even that interesting. It read more like the kind of disjointed far-out stories that get told around the campfire to spook people. The author implied this would be the first book in a series--I hope he gets in some writing classes before undertaking another book. I would have enjoyed a good book about paranormal investigators, but this just wasn't it.

Scary book on dealing with demons in haunted houses.

When door ways to the demonic are opened nightmares come through and become a frightening reality. Brandon Boston has personally experienced hauntings and demonic entities in his life and learned how to fight back against them and get the spiritual power and protection from God to battle the demonic and experience deliverance and freedom. He wants to help others and has done exorcisms and cleansings of other people`s haunted houses. The chapter on the haunted cemeteries he has visited and the evil spirits and demonic creatures he has encountered is creepy, scary and eerily fascinating. This book is a really good book on understanding what to do if you your living in a house with demonic spirits that are tormenting you and attacking you and your family.
