Charlotte Bevan and Laura Collins Lyster-Mensh are parent volunteers for F.E.A.S.T., an international organization for parents facing an eating disorder diagnosis in the family. This is Charlotte Bevan's first book. Laura Collins Lyster-Mensh is the author of Eating With Your Anorexic (McGraw-Hill). The authors wrote this book together over an ocean and with a deadline: Bevan has terminal breast cancer. Their shared passion is helping other families engaged in the hardest job they've ever had: saving their beloved kids from an eating disorder. Eating disorders are treatable brain disorders.

A gem of a book

What every parent needs when faced with a diagnosis of an eating disorder in the family and little more than a sinking feeling in the pit of the stomach to accompany it - a lifeline. Here are friends that you didn't know you had to tell you exactly what you might expect and how you need to act. With a wealth of experience between them, and both US and UK English languages and practices in their view and at their fingertips, this dynamic duo are everything that you need in a care package to start you off, to keep you afloat once you have embarked, and to help pull the family through to recovery; they believe that nothing less is good enough, and have been helping folk achieve it, in their individual and inimitable styles, for quite some time already.

Buy several copies

This slim, easily-digestable, yet packed with everything you need to know if a loved one has an eating disorder, book is the place to start with your reading on EDs. Give it to family members who need help understanding what's going on. Give it to doctors who don't get it. And be sure to keep your copy to re-read when you lose sight of how to deal with your loved one's ED.

The best parent handbook ever!

This book is an incredible example of how families searching for knowledge understanding and practical supportive information for caring for someone with an eating disorder can find hope and understanding. Written by two committed activist parents who themselves, had to navigate the frightening and difficult experience of caring for a loved one with an eating disorder. This is a brave and loving book I will share with everyone I love.
